Our services have been retained to recruit a SAFETY MANAGER for a growing, privately held, multi-plant food manufacturer based in South Central Pennsylvania – community of 20,000 within commuting distance of several cities of approximately 50,000. This area offers a great quality of life, good schools, moderate C.O.L. and many outdoor recreational options.

The Safety Manager reports to Director of Human Resources will provide safety, environmental, and strategic direction by leading and supporting operations efforts to identify, eliminate, and reduce exposures to create a safe and compliant work environment. The Safety Manager supports and advises site management regarding the safety procedures and regulations. This is predominantly a safety role – 80-90% safety, 10-20% environmental. Will directly manage one Safety Coordinator in an expanding food plant of 250 nonunion within a complex of over 40 acres. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Plans, assists, and monitors implementation of safety policies and procedures relative to compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations to include OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Admin), and DOT (Dept. of Transportation), Storm water permits, Cost Containment, and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). • Oversees the review and compliance of existing programs, policies and procedures. • Compiles and submits incident reports required by regulatory agencies. • Acts as liaison for the investigation of safety health and environmental related incidents for use in and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations. • Ensures proper recordkeeping of all safety, health and environmental files and records corporate wide. • Participates in ongoing data collection, analysis, and reporting) to management and executives on progress/quality/outcomes of safety, health and environmental programs, policies, procedures and safety culture. • Oversees workers’ compensation by doing the following; ensures employees receive proper communication, reduce exposure, ensure prompt resolution, monitors panel doctors, and complies with state specific laws. • Provides input into the development, implementation and evaluation of short term and long term departmental and corporate safety goals. • Establishes priorities and goals for individuals reporting directly to them. • Provides direction on key tactics to successfully achieve established goals. • Performs projects associated with safety goals. • Works with other management to develop new safety, health and environmental programs to continuously improve the safety culture and safety outcomes. • Provides safety, health and environmental information people need to know to do their jobs and communicates a compelling and inspired safety vision. • Oversees all agencies conducting safety, fire, physical security and environmental audits corporate wide. Directly communicate with these agencies as needed with the support of the legal team. • Maintains the company Crisis Management Decision Making Plan. • Acts as liaison with all federal, state and local agencies for environmental reporting requirements. • Monitors the daily utilization of labor and supplies and takes accountability for reviewing and understanding the department spend. • Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring to safety team toward appropriate career path activities • Assists in selection of safety team. • Directly supervises safety team, performs evaluations, and provides disciplinary coaching. • Assesses factors that impact retention and loss of business safety intelligence

Education and/or Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health and Environmental related studies is preferred but experience in lieu of education will be considered. Seeking person with 5+ years food or consumer products manufacturing safety and training experience.
